The condition in which gynoecium occupy lower position while other flower parts are situated on or above thalamus, the flower is termed as epigynous.
In perigynous flower the thalamus is expanded to become disc shaped, cup shaped with androperianth being attached to the margins.
Ex- Pea, Rose etc.
In the hypegynous flower gynoecium occupies the highest position while the other parts are situated below it.
Ex - China rose, mustard, brinjal etc.
